The Need for Builders
In the summer of 2021, the foundation of Rockbridge Creative Institute was laid—not with bricks or mortar but with a vision and a mandate: “Go Forth to Build!” Nestled on 375 acres on the western side of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Buena Vista, Virginia, this idea took root in the heart of our founder as a calling to create something lasting, meaningful, and transformative.
This vision became the cornerstone of RCI’s mission: to establish a new kind of trade school that embraced both the modern materials and techniques bot also honored the our heritage of artistry and durability. We see this as a way to help restore the pride and dignity in the work done by those wearing the blue collar. RCI is dedicated individuals who desire to master the trades, honor timeless beauty, and help build a better nation. There are report to be 7 million unfilled jobs in the trades. Let’s get to work.
Our nation depends on the skills and dedication of tradespeople to maintain its infrastructure, culture, and communities. Yet for decades, trades have been undervalued in favor of traditional four-year college degrees. This has left aspiring artisans and builders without the most inspiring spaces where they can grow professionally while being supported personally and spiritually.
Rockbridge Creative Institute was founded to fill that gap. Here, students learn to craft not just buildings but lives of integrity, purpose, and beauty. From the first brick laid to the final roof beam, RCI’s programs are designed to elevate the trades and provide students with opportunities to lead fulfilling lives as they work in the trades.
A Place of Inspiration and Growth
The journey to establish RCI was one of determination and faith. What began as a single land purchase quickly grew into a vision for a campus that would inspire students to dream big and work hard. Over time, additional land was acquired, bylaws were set, and the groundwork for a community was laid—both figuratively and literally. Now, our 375-acre campus includes housing, workshops, and spaces for gathering, all nestled in the breathtaking beauty of the Shenandoah Valley.
Here, students live, learn, and create in a space that fosters collaboration and personal growth. The campus itself reflects the very principles we teach, from its handcrafted structures to its commitment to beauty, durability, and craftsmanship.
